The only way to find out what's in water is to test it!

Most fishkeepers test their water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Some also test for temperature and oxygen levels, carbonate hardness, general hardness, phosphates and silicates.

The majority of the 'stuff' in water that affects choice of purifier cannot be tested for using hobbyist test kits. Testing needs to be undertaken in laboratories, by water chemists.

Don't panic! There are fairly easy ways of finding out what is in your water. To find out what to do, go to the section on WATER ANALYSIS.
